Karl Strauss Brewing Company in San Diego

Went to Karl Strauss for lunch. Had the Mesquite Chicken Sandwich for lunch. Great sandwich. It comes with grilled chicken breast , avocado, beer brined bacon, white cheddar, tomato, lettuce, toasted bun, chili aioli, and house made chips. Great sandwich.

Great food. My husband and I have been to six different locations but come to this one the most. Highly recommend.

Great staff, good food and beer. This place is a little more "corporate" feeling than some of the other craft beer joints in the area, but they do a nice job. Great patio, too. Try the spicy shrimp and grits, ginger crusted salmon, seared ahi salad.

Great selection of exceptional beers. Tower 10 is a great IPA. Red Trolley Ale is the best go to beer ever. Menu selections are diverse, offering a choice for everyone. Black bean soup and hummus are standout selections.

The atmosphere, beer and food are great. The fact that Karl Strauss cannot manage its business in a way where they avoid adding a 3% service tax to the bill is unacceptable. Look for the fine print on the menu for the service tax notification. Three percent is not painful, but discovering it, if you do, when you pay is somewhat a California way of passing off the financial burden.

Come here hungry–the portions are fairly large. The norm mac and cheese is fantastic.

Expectations had been exceeded on a Friday night trip to Karl Strauss. Rolling in as a party of 2, seating was surprisingly readily available with a seemingly packed house. A solid selection of beers set to satisfy everyone's preferences with a few fresh small KS batch brews also on draft.A starter of the boneless buffalo wings tasted as if they were made in-house and topped with a tasty sauce. Next up was a turkey burger with a side of fries. Being incredibly picky, a different bun would've served this particular burger a bit better. However, I could easily go back and order that same sandwich, as is, every single time and not grow tired of it.Service was great, and a return to this location will be in my immediate future.

I was impressed with the restaurant and bar. Our bartender was awesome and the manager was kind and checked up on us. The beer selection is amazing and the appetizers were terrific. Seating was fast and they have outdoor seating too. It is in a great location. Definitely recommended - 5 stars! You won't be disappointed.

I come specifically for their Mac and cheese, which is always excellent! One big thing to know about is parking, since the lot is shared with another popular restaurant, so if you go at a popular time be prepared to circle the lot waiting for a spot to open up.

Came on a Saturday night and it wasn’t overly busy. My first time having any Karl Strauss beer and I enjoyed the ones I tried, Red Trolley currently at the top of my list. The Grass Fed Burger was delicious and cooked to perfection, topped with delicious bacon and avocado. I upgraded my side for truffle fries and they were lightly flavored with a nice aioli on the side. Shared a Beeramisu for dessert and it was delicious! Flavor is not as strong as when the ladyfingers are dipped in espresso but it was a nice change. I love that it isn’t too sweet. There is some caramel and chocolate drizzled on the side for those who want a touch more sweetness. Overall, service was great the food and drinks were delicious. Will definitely be back!

Online menu is not clear/misleading about whether fish tacos are corn or wheat flour. Service is not where it should be. We ordered thinking fish tacos are made of corn (i am gluten sensitive) When i started eating them they tasted like they have wheat in them. I was in the parking lot so i went back and confirmed with the restaurant that they indeed had regular wheat flour in them. I told them about the online menu - there was no sorry or “how can i make it right for you?”. For $20 price tag for 3 tacos there should be a better menu and better service. Note for the restaurant: Menu says “corn-flour” which can be interpreted as corn flour, especially when you are reading quickly... should be changed to “corn and wheat flour” or at least to “corn & flour”...

GREAT beer and really good food! Be sure to ask about any off menu beers - the waitstaff is knowledgeable and can offer yummy tasters too.

Good beer and service. The tuna steak was fantastic as well. Minus one star for the owners following this trend of complaining on their menu about having to pay their employees properly and tacking it onto your bill as a 3% surcharge. Do what everyone else does and include wages in your overhead costs instead of being skinflints and actually printing it on your menu that you don't care about your employees.

Our family has always loved Karl Strauss, but now their "family style" takeout menu hit it out of the park! So much tasty comfort food at a very reasonable price, we will definitely be back soon. We got the pretzels, fish tacos, cheeseburger kits, mac & cheese and a very generous salad bowl that came with multiple dressings. It was perfect for a big hungry family, the leftovers were easy to store and covered multiple meals. With cold beer to take home to top it off - we actually hope this menu will remain an option in the time after Covid!

Very good place for drinks and food with friends. The price point is a little bit steep for the quality, but if you don't mind that, then this a nice place to eat every once in a while. My favorites entrees are the shrimp and grits (didn't know grits could taste so yummy!) and beer brined chops.

Solid beer, good service and decent food. My quinoa bowl was a little too saturated with sauce. The pretzel was ok but could use some more pretzel flavor. It was more like a breadstick. Mike was our server and he was knowledgeable and energetic. We enjoyed his conversation. Outdoor seating was good on a cool night.

Had a seared Ahi salad with a couple of small (circa 3floz ea) 🍺 beer samplers. Excellent tasting and healthy food nicely accommodated with a couple of brews. Or waitress was very nice and professional. We enjoyed our time here. Prices are still ok.

A brewery restaurant with a wide selection of beers and food options. I'm not really a beer person, but I taste some and well, it depends on your taste as to what you will like. There are snacks, salads, pastas, burgers, and more. I opted for the veggie linguine, probably something you wouldn't normally eat at a place like this...but it turned out okay, cooked well with seasoning and ingredients. I would say overall the food isn't the most sought after, but it'll do for a meal out. The service was really good, the waitress was really helpful and the attentiveness was slightly above average.

Great place for beer and burgers. This was our first time at this location. Had the Aurora Hoppyalis beer with a Beer Burger. The place was really quiet, and I could watch a couple football games from where we sat. In the bar they have 5 TVS with different games on Sundays.

Great Food, Ambiance and beer collections!

Great atmosphere, extremely friendly staff, kept everything COVID clean...would have given five stars but had to close out every order and couldn't keep an open tab.

Farmhouse burger is my go.to burger! Delicious blend of beef, pork belly, overeasy egg, mayo and gruyere. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu offerings, including the ample beer selection. Location is in the heart of 4S ranch, less than 10 minutes east of the 15 freeway off of Rancho Bernardo.

I have been coming here for years and they have never dissappointed me yet! I ordered the blackened mahi tacos with the side of watermelon and a mosaic beer and everything paired perfectly. My friend ordered the shrimp poboy which is one of my favorites and he said that it was on point! Our server Bri was spectacular with her service and knowledge of the menu. I highly recommend this place if you like craft beer and great gastro food!

Beer kinda sucks. I'm sorry to say because I wanted to like this place. Great, open atmosphere. Staff is relatively warm. A bit too kitchy and trendy. Food wasn't impressive, small portions but I didn't work my way across the menu. Won't be back based on beer alone.

Great service, great food and even better they have excellent beer! I added the menus. They now are testing out Beer Brunch (double thumbs up) which is happy hour on the weekend! My server was Claudette, she was great! Very patience with my grandparents.. thanks Claudette!

Got the tree hugger mac n cheese, it was decent, but lacking a bit of flavor. Truffle fries were great but the service was super slow.

Two stars since the food was fine. They've moved to order at the counter and aren't offering table service. They've done a fine job setting up plenty of outdoor seating with shade but not a server in sight unless they are actively delivering food to a table. Your kid drops their fork, plan on waiting in line to get a new one. All of the tables around already have their food? Don't expect to get any refills. All finished and need boxes... Back in line. Probably won't be back any time soon. They need to return to having table service before we'll consider returning.

If you like wood and rustic look, come here. Beyond Burger is good, not sure if the Patty can be subbed on other burgers.

Good beer, nice bar. Their Hummus is really great... And their Mac and cheese is the best. Warning: they only have beer and wine, no hard alcohol. It gets busy and parking can be tough.

I’m from Milwaukee Wisconsin and I had the best burger I have ever had here ! The beer was great and the staff was amazing!
